Media Technologies for Business

Media technologies can provide new ways to communicate, collaborate and enjoy content. They also require that business leaders change their strategies, culture, and systems.

Every industry is facing disruption, but it’s been especially pronounced in the media industry. It’s the reason once-mighty giants like Blockbuster Video and Tower Records have shut down. This is the reason why newspapers are shrinking and moving online, and why so many TV shows were canceled.

Amidst this unyielding industry disruption businesses have to be agile and resilient. They should also embrace new ways of working and collaboration and rely on flexible and integrated systems to make better choices and get faster results.

Digital media can be described as any type of data transmitted using digital data. At its most basic digital data, it’s an array of binary signals (zeroes or ones) that are transmitted through satellites or digital cables and received by devices which transform them into audios, videos, graphics, text and more. This includes everything from streaming television and movies on platforms such as Netflix to virtual reality simulators utilized by medical institutions. It also includes websites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat that allow users to interact with one other by posting pictures or videos, as well as messages.
